A Wild Wildcard

Today, nine teams composed of 40 students competed for the final slot in Wednesday's Battle of the Books Championship. This is the largest round we have ever had. It was very exciting (as all rounds have been!) It came down to a sudden death playoff, and the fifth grade team of Sammy, Quinn, Miyu, and Henry prevailed. Congratulations.
The big game is on Wednesday at 8:10 in the library.

Toler and Anuva took a few minutes to review all the books they have read this year. They are ready to represent their class at next week's tournament.


Sixth Grade readers showcase

Thursday was the final day of grade-level play in this year's BOTB tournament. It was an terrific morning, as all three teams competed at the highest level, showcasing their knowledge of the 25 MCBA books. Congratulations to the winning team - Alina, Anuva, Mariam, and Toler!

Fifth grade has their day



This morning five teams of fifth grade readers descended on the library for their Battle of the Books.
In the end, Team 5 - Campbell, Elena, and Luka rose victorious. Congratulations! They move on to next week's school championship. The remaining teams have one more shot in next week's Wildcard round.

Fourth Grade Shines


The fourth grade Battle of the Books tournament took place this morning in the library. What excitement! It was a very close game and came down to a final death playoff between teams 1 and 2.
Team 1 prevailed to take the crown. Congratulations to Charlie, Charlotte, Justice, John and Kale! They move on to the school championship next week.
The remaining teams have a second chance and will compete for the wildcard slot next Monday.
Each student read a minimum o five MCBA books to qualify for the competition.

Let the Book Battles Begin!

This week begins our Battle of the Books Tournament. This year we have 13 teams signed up and 52 students participating. It promises to be a great tourney, with some very competitive brackets. And don't discount the teacher team! They are very strong this year, led by 25-reader Ms. Gearhart.

Trivia 2/12


I hope you are busy reading your last few books in preparation for our end of the month activities.
Battle of the Books competition starts next week. Voting for our favorite book will take place on February 26 and Stories in Action takes place on February 28th. You have to have read five books in order to be part of the fun! We end the Winter term with an all-school "Spring into Reading" celebration on March 2nd. Wow!
